The Project covers Phase 2 of a capital project to renovate The Old Laundry building in St. John’s churchyard, Waberthwaite which will provide a useful meeting space for a range of different groups to use for social and educational purposes. Phase 1, to make the building structurally sound and weatherproof, with an extension to accommodate accessible toilets was completed first. The grant to complete Phase 2 sees connection to mains services, fitting out of the facilities and improvements to the outdoor space for easier access and safety.

Project Impacts

  • 250 Initiatives or interventions taken to promote good mental health or that increase access to effective mental health support (expressed as people reached)
  • 1 regular weekly booking and an average of an additional 2 one-off bookings a month
  • 70 Voluntary time dedicated to the creation or management of green infrastructure, to increase biodiversity, or to keep green spaces clean
  • Increase the volunteer numbers from 10 to 20 by 2024
  • Provide a meeting space for social groups to meet and for local fund-raising events
  • Opportunities created for adults and children to meet and enhance their pride in and understanding of local heritage and environment. Resources will be provided for activities including nature study, historical research and experiential learning.
