Aspire Academy is a Community Interest Company formed by the partnership of three local organisations: West Cumbria Learning Centre (WCLC), Time to Change West Cumbria and William King Construction.
The grant is to support the capital costs to set up the learning facility, including: learning shelters, tool kits and PPE, for the benefit of learners at the Academy.
Aspire Academy will provide purpose-built education and training facilities, on a new site at West Lakes Science Park, to support those who have some of the worst employment outcomes across West Cumbria, referred through West Cumbria Learning Centre. Students who have previously been excluded from mainstream education, will have the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience in an outdoor construction industry setting, whilst being supported by WCLC staff at the centre and mentors from the industry, as well as construction skills, students will also build on their confidence, teamwork and communication skills.

- Creation of a new education and training facility built by William King Construction.
- Students will work in groups of approx. 4-6
- Each week, a student will spend approx. half a day on site
- Teach and provide opportunities for young people referred from WCLC who will gain hands on experience in a range of disciplines including brick laying, plastering, rendering, painting
- Teach and provide opportunities for young people referred from WCLC who will gain skills and experience in using plant and machinery, in working in teams and in starting and completing tasks
- Teach and provide opportunities for young people referred from WCLC who will gain recognised and accredited qualifications
- Students who successfully complete the qualification will have the option to take their tool kit and PPE with them onto their next employment/apprenticeship opportunity.
