SASRA – ‘Seascale Community Gym’

Local residents across Seascale and surrounding areas have celebrated as funding for a new community fitness centre at the Windscale Club in Seascale was secured in 2011.

A partnership between community residents and SASRA raised £160,000. Work to renovate an underused room in the club and turn it into a modern fitness facility started in February 2011 and was completed for the opening in May 2012.

Andrew Kendall, Project Manager, SASRA said, “The project has taken just over two years to get to this point and we are so excited about the future for this fantastic community facility”.

“We have received support from the Copeland Community Fund development team which has provided invaluable advice and guidance in drawing together the funding package and business planning support”.

Andrew explained, “The centre will be fitted out with the latest cardio and resistance equipment as well as providing accessible male and female changing rooms. The centre is well located within the Windscale Club with ample free parking, women’s only fitness suite and competitive rates on membership”.

Funds for the project have come from Copeland Community Fund, RDPE Fells and Dales, Cumbria County Council, Cumbria Waste Management Environment Trust, BIG Lottery Awards for All, Cumbria Community Foundation, LLW Repository Ltd, Europa Cleaning, SASRA, Cumbria Police, community donations and support from local businesses.
